All GSL had 3.9 ratio LSD
All GSL-SE had 4.1 ratio LSD

Note both are only 4 wheel disc models available, hence no open factory diff had disc brakes.

Basic rule of thumb for 1st gen,in case you come across a modded car,or one without badging........If it has rear disc brakes,it should have the LSD differential too.Thats how they were on the GSL and GSL-SE cars from the factory, from 81-85.
The only way that wouldnt be true,is if someone took the LSD diff out of the disc brake rearend housing, and installed an open diff in its place....which has happened.

Did any non-GSL or GSL/SE cars have LSD? Specifically, '83 Limited Edition? Any way to tell by marking or tags on the rear end?

Thanks - David

Nope,not from the factory anyways.
The LSD was part of the disc rearend, even though it could be swapped directly into the drum housing. It came standard on the GSL and SE,but wasnt an availible option on the S or GS models.....only God knows why, since the sporty, sparten models were more in tune with performance than the luxury versions. The LE was based on a GS platform,so it never came with either, stock.

Because it was an expensive option to fit, therefore if you wanted it you went to the GSL or GSL-SE, the Limited Edition has special wheels and paint but that's about all.

Much easier to take an S/GS with no sunroof and just swap the rear end in, to me at least thats the only appeal of the GSL, power windows etc is just usless weight in a sports car IMO. Theres lots of rumor floating around this forum that there were GSL's with no sunroofs from the factory, does anyone have proof of this cause I find it hard to believe...

Same here, personal preference more than anything, although the weight savings is nice, especially since having extra weight up that hight doesn't help the cars CG. Noticible under normal driving? no, but still nice to know.
