LeMans headlights

has any one ever heard of a street car using those yello lights like they do at Lemans? do they use those lights cuz they have to, or because they offer some sort of advantage?

I believe they use them for visibility and style. If they were to use regular HID lights they might blind drivers as they look in the rear view mirrors, etc.

They use them because its in the rules, thats why you see some of the cars with one yellow and one non-yellow light...its because they must have at least 1 yellow light on the car

afaik

Yellow lights were typical French things a few years ago. All French cars had them, and a lot of cas imported to France had them. The thing is: yellow lights from the same brightness will blind people (upcoming traffic, or other race cars at LM) a lot less then the white counterparts. A lot of discussion had been going on to make these lights a european rule for street cars. In the end they decided against it, and we now all use white ones. The old yellow ones are starting to get rare. But LM still has them in the rule book.
As said: it basicly isn't a race thing, as most French-bought cars had them on the road.

I've also heard that yellow lights cut through fog better, but I think that's a myth.

your lights on the front of your car in lemans tell teh driver you are coming up on what class you are in, if you look at a C5R and a GTSR they have the same lay out of lights on the front, and the prototypes, and everyone else, each class has its own setup, and yellow does do better in rain and fog, thats why most lexsus have yellow fog lights

I was very tempted to come in and say "Stop talking unless you know what you're talking about" until I saw 666's statement. Any race that runs multiple classes simultaneously requires that the seperate classes have easily distinguishable headlights, as well as a number of other markings.

I dont think the new Prodrive 550 maranello's have the same headlight configuration as the corvettes and the vipers...the corvettes and the vipers have the 2 outter lights, then 2 close together, while the 550 only have the 2 lights in the "normal" position

why is this so? if it is to identify who is behind you, which makes sence...why is the 550 different?
