left rear axel bearings.

When I am up to speed ,I hear a scrape noise in the left rear. Nothing rubbing that I can find or see. How large a pain is it going to be to remove and replace ,the bearings, or would it be easier to grab the whole rear axel from my parts car????????????????? Bob Holton

Bob. It is a very straight forward job. You take the axle to your local machine shop and have them press off the old bearing and install a new one.

Agreed, its a job that could probably be done in a matter of a few hours. While your going through the trouble you might as well do both sides since the other side is bound to go soon enough...

Also...replace the seals while you're at it. I have no idea why I didn't do that when I restored the rear end on mine, but ended up having to replace them later because one started leaking.

I replaced my left rear last week. Don't be intimidated as it looks more difficult in words than in effort. My local machine shop got the bearing and seal for me and pressed the bearing on all for 85$. I dont even hear my rear anymore. Well worth knowing I dont have to deal with it again, and I would think a swap would be more difficult just to have used parts again.
