Leaves and under debris in cowl...vents

Ok this is a really annoying problem. I have a large amount of leaves and twigs and other such nonsense sitting in the 'floor' of the cowl vent. They work their way into the ventilation system and make all these nice rustling sounds when I turn on the blower motor...it's like perpetual autumn. Am I the only one that has this problem? How do I get all this **** out??

Remove the cowl vent cover (a few philips screws, and one wiper arm) and shopvac it out. The stuff that got down into the ducting will probably need you to pull the blower motor to get to.

If you let it build up too much in the blower housing, it could possibly damage the fan.

Would making something custom to fit inside the cowling stop the problem? maybe some treated eaves trough stuff that's like a mesh. That'd keep bugs, leaves and other debris out and not impede air flow. Wouldn't even know it's there if it's done cleanly enough?

Window screening should work. Only problem is keeping it taunt.

Prob is when its parked any length of time presumably. I just cut a couple of plastic (6mil+ roll stuff) sheets for each vent and use fridge magnets to keep them there. Obv pull for driving....

You mean you would ridicule it and tease it?!?!

"If you do not go away, I will be forced to taunt you a second time!"(Holy Grail) Damn funny movie.

Anything at all will impede airflow. Especially after it catches stuff. You could use masonry cloth. It is a galvanized wire mesh that is more coarse than window screen. I would advise hot gluing it to the bottom side of the cowl cover so it is more likely to keep debris out of the trough entirely.

Also, make sure that the drains are not plugged with stuff.

Or the better looking thing to do is get aluminum mesh for bumpers and what not that they sell at most speed shops (if you get black it usually doesn't stands out too much unless you want it too and then get that polished aluminum) and all you would need to do is with 4 zip ties mount it to the finned parts.

This is the stuff that I'm talking about:

The problem that I found with windscreen is that because the holes are so small on there it really traps everything and becomes a pain to clean up. and try to remove that stuff.

I would use fiberglass window screen. Looks just like the metal stuff but wont rust.
