Leaking oil pan right by omp

Was wondering how much should I pay ? I don’t want to get ripped off . One of my boys just told me unloose my motor mounts and it’ll be enought clearance to remove the oil pan I’m also adding a baffle while I’m at it . But what’s a ok price to pay ?.

You will need to remove the top nuts from both motor mount and either use a cherry picker or carefully placed floor jack with a wood cushion under the oil pan. I like the cherry picker method better. The take the oil pan off. Use either two gaskets (I add a little sealant to both gasket sides on the outside portion of the bolt holes) OR that Honda style sealant and no gasket. Clean the 22 bolt holes out really good. I also like using a stud kit instead of using the old bolts but either will work. Getting the pan back in with sealant is tricky.

If you had to pay a competent mechanic, I'd say a two hour job. Around me, the going shop rate can be as high as $100 per hour plus supplies.

Before you get into resealing the oil pan, ensure that your front cover gasket or oil metering pump are not leaking down and collecting on the seam between the oil pan and engine. This is a tricky area because it could one, both or all three. I advise cleaning the area thoroughly with brake clean and a few shop towels and running the car for a short drive and taking another look at the leak. Just be sure before paying someone to do the job. Its not a hard job but does involve some time in cleaning all of the old sealer off of the engine and the pan, prepping the contact areas for new sealer on top of removing the pan.

The thing that gets most people when re-doing the oil pan, rear end etc. is not waiting long enough for the sealant to thoroughly cure. I always wait 24 hours before adding any oil. It may be overkill, but it beats the hell out of doing it again. I personally use Honda Bond, the stuff is awesome.

It's an easy job that definitely you can do yourself instead of paying a couple of hundred bucks to a shop to do it....

Do it yourself, gain some experience, save some money and get the satisfaction that you did it. ..

Good luck....
