leaking a little coolant, beehive...

Well this leak is making me mad, it seems to only leak during a cold start up and after a while it just stops? Huh whys that? It looks like it could almost be coming from around the top mount for the coolant line. How should I go about fixing this? Just chuck it and goto a front mount oil cooler? Where is the most common place for these things to leak?

Most common place for beehive to leak are the 4 o-rings that are inside it. Relatively easy to do from what I have heard. Have not done it personally, though I have taken them off. I suggest replacing the hoses while its off, because you might as well, and taking them off kind of sucks. Other than removal/installation its easy to get to the o-rings. Hope to help, good luck.

I replaced my o-rings in an hour or so, no biggie. That solved my leaking problem. I believe there are 2 10mm nuts you need to remove to get the cooler off the engine enough to replace the o-rings. It's a pain to get to them so beware and be patient. Your local Mazda dealer can get them for you, probably for around 5 bucks.

no no Im 99% sure its not my o-rings, the coolant is leaking from near the top of the beehive, there is even a little that has pooled up on the top of my rear rotor housing...

leaking beehive

Are you able to pressurize your coolant system? If you can, try that without running the engine. It might be your beehive itself.

Check the two coolant hoses that run to the cooler, then replace if they are cracked or worn etc.

is it possible for coolant to seap out from between the cracks of the beehive? I noticed that a bunch of the paint was coming off the side of the beehive so I rubbed some of it off, could this cause the coolant to leak out a little like this?

Its very possible your beehive is failing and leaking around the fins. I would go to a front mount cooler.

I've never seen a oil/water cooler leak coolant. You're making this way harder than you need to, did you even check the hoses?

Yes I check the hoses, and the side of the beehive is wet and smells like coolant hmmmm I wonder where it could be coming from? There is nothing above it leaking... Its offiously leaking out of the side between the fins...

ok I was wrong, I owe you guys an apology, the top hose is actually leaking, I heated my car up today and tryed whiping the fins dry and seeing if they got wet to make sure and nothing. So I squeezed the upper hose and sure enough coolant sprayed out... So now my question is how big is that line?
