ajc13b, i understand that there is no way to make up that time, but i ment that more power would make you less likely to bog at the launch..

It depends where you make the power and torque though. If you increase top end power and move the 'power band' further up the RPM range, its going to make things worse. You need more power down low. Hence alot of people use NOS to get off the line...

yah, much rather have shorter gearing and a high-winding engine than tall gears and a grunt motor.
