Lake cities/Atkins style intake?

Whos using one? I found one(Atkins manifold) for my 4port 13B that I'm building. This will be paired up to my RB Dellorto. I was just curious on what to expect with this set up on streetported motor. I have always used the 2 piece RB manifolds. BTW pics of your set up would be nice!

Thanks, Ed

Im not sure if they have a LCM for a 13-B. Most of the ones I have seen are 12-A like Drivefast7. Now, if you use a 12-A to 13-B adapter plate, it will be a real tight fit.

Mel, I'll be using an Atkins manifold on my 4port. Found one thats already tapped for NOS. I was just wondering if there would be a big difference with this set up vs one that places the carb on top of the motor.

Thanks, Ed

PM Drivefast7. Based on the design, it should be better since its a straight shot manifold but I got no experience on a LCM.

I've used the RB 2 piece U shaped manifold and the lake cities / atkins manifold. The LC one allowed motor to rev up MUCH quicker and has incredible throttle response. Torque did drop, but HP increased, with the same size chokes.

When I went from 39mm to 37mm chokes on the 12a SP on the street, I was still making similar torque as with the RB mani & 39mm chokes. And more hp too + motor still revved like a champ. Really like the LC manifold and reccomend it.

You will need a throttle cable that is 24inches longer than stock, and an air filter that is 3.25" tall max. Stacks that are 50mm long max. Tight fit but it does fit. Custom fab OMP linkage or premix like I did.

Fab a good heat shield above header, make it 2 layers thick. I pop riveted aluminum sheet under the stock exhaust manifold cover, and hung it on the upper header studs. I also had my stainless header JetHot2000 coated in and out. With motor spinning 6000rpms on the dyno, temps on bottom of carb were 95*F - 101*F. Speed costs money.........

I concure.

I installed an oldschool Lake cities manifold with a 44phh Mikuni on a friends stockport 12A in his Wide-body... from the butt dyno this set-up made way more hp than the holley that it replaced... much more usable power, started quicker.... etc.

the heat sheild was definately needed... I ended up using a stock throttle cable from an FC.. fit very nicely,.

I am looking for another one... or even any side-draft manfold for a 12A (wrap, 1 or 2 piece, or another LCM).. let me know if any one has a spare they can sell me...

the big key to this is in the throttle response... this thing loves to autoX now. no more slosh from the holley. and instant response.

I was worried that the stock cable was not going to be long enough. Any ideas where I can get a longer cable? Also does anyone have pics of their set up?

Thanks, Ed

stock FC throttle cable hooked up to gas pedal and carb just fine? nice. What year(s) FC cable? Is it taught and barely reach or does it have some slack ?

I had a custom one made by a local shop here. Just dropped it off and picked up new one 2 weeks later. And need another one since the little soldered ball on the end ripped thru it's washer.

stock s4 N/A.

both sides are identical to the original FB cable.... just a longer cable... these fit really well with a little slack, but not so much to cause an issue.... OH and way cheaper than having one made for you

the TII cables also work well, but are way too long.

I wish i had a pic of the one I was talking about...

the owner was in an accident (in a different car) and is unable to drive the RX-7..

How does the Lake Cities setup compare to a Weber 48 IDA? I know much depends on the carb, but I may have the chance to put either one on my RX-2 and was just curious what people thought. I am not sure if the Lake Cities setup would fit into the '2 though.

Nice! Before I go and buy a FC cable, I need to know some more about the carb linkage:

1. Is the carb linkage where the cable hooks up facing rear of car side of carb or front of car side of carb. (another way to ask is: is the cable linkage facing rear or front rotor?)

2. To open throttle, do you pull on throttle cable towards drivers side, or towards passenger side?

!!!!!!!!!!Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

rear of carb...

there are two bolt bosses on top of the manifold..

I made a bracket that mounted into these two holes using bolts, then drill and sloted a section of the bracket for the throttle cable to go thru... and retain the outer part of the cable..... then ran the actual cable to the throttle linkage.

for some crazy reason i could not find a linkage to mount to the mikuni that would work with the FC cable.... so i got a spare linkage arm from the mikuni and welded it (in the correct position.... to allow proper throttle shaft movement...) to a thottle shaft cam from one of my 3 million spare FC throttle bodies around here.

If i still had some spare FC cables I'd sell them to you guys cheap.

I'll try to get some pictures..

if need be feel free to PM me, I'll give you my digits, and I'd be happy to talk to anyone about this or anything else....

this set-up will not fit in an RX-2 or RX-3..

I had a TWM Dual Mikuni Set-up I wanted to use in my RX-3... but there was no way in hell to make it work.....

Will this work on my Dellorto? I found some cables but want to make sure that it will work with my carb.

Thanks, Ed

yeah, pretty much all "DCO" style side-draft carbs (mikuni, Solex, weber, dellorto, hitachi etc)

SS124A - Do you have any pictures? Also, how much longer is the FC turbo throttle cable? It sounds like I'll need the turbo cable since my linkage is facing front of car, and pulls to passenger side to open throttle.

Anyone know overall length of an FC Turbo ][ cable?

Thanks,

How much longer is the FC cable? The one I got is shorter than the one in my 83? Now I'm stuck!

Thanks, Ed

Hey frigidmonkey, can you post pics of your linkage setup? I am at a total standstill with this thing.
