KYB or Tokico
KYB or Tokico
What's a better shock in everyone's opinion? I was thinking of getting some Tokico HP "blues", but I can get the KYB Gas-Adjust's for cheaper. I need 2 new rear shocks and with my budget aimed at other things for the car at the moment, I can't buy the Illumina's.

I have KYB GR-2 gas shocks and RB Springs all around and I love them. Awesome balance between performance and drivability. The KYBs aren't adjustible (the "gas-a-just" is just the name they use for one of their types of gas shocks, they aren't actually adjustible like the tokicos).
For Price/Performance on a budget, I highly recommend the KYBs.

What did you expect from them, and what did you get?
I like my KYBs, but if I were autocrossing more I'd probably like a stiffer shock. The adjustibles are nice, but if you're comparing Tokico Blues to KYB GR-2s (both non-adjustible) I think the blues are a little harsh for daily driving in my area, but would be great for track.
I find the KYBs are the perfect balance between "let's do some spirited driving/light autocross" and "let's go for a drive with the girlfriend, without rupturing her spleen".
Don't just spew "they're crap". Justify it or your post is useless.

Exactly what he said. Mine are great and I think perform superbly for the price.

Firstly, he's talking about the KYB Gas-A-Just, which is the middle-of the road shock from KYB. It's a step up from the GR-2s (almost as stiff as the Tokico blues from what I hear), but not as nice as the adjustable AGX.
I would take the KYB's over the Tokico's myself (in fact, I have... I'm replacing the worn out Tokico Blues in my rear wiith KYB GR-2's).
My personal prefrence is actually Koni, but they don'tmake the rear's for FB's anymore.

KYB'S??!! ewww!! Tokicos all the way. I have GR-2s on my Eclipse and they freakin suck. The OEM shocks were better. I recommend Tokico Blues or Illuminas. Ive had my Illuminas for maybe 2 years now, and my car still handles like a champ
I have decided to buy the Tokico HP "blues". My gf is afraid that if she rides in my car that it will break down again, lol. So I guess ride quality doesn't matter to me. Thank you all for your opinions.

just curious, How does a Eclipse compare to a FB? I haven't bought any after market shocks for my car, I am still working on the body and engine. It going to cost me $1500 to get al the rust off the car and another $1200 for the paint job. In the future I will be getting the least expensive of the 2, all though I want a sightly tight rear end and a slightly loose front.(or is it the otherway around?) I don't do autocrossing but I will do an occasional piston beatdown.

FB's rear ends are very tight

I've had then both. KYB GR2's are stock replacement and no stiffer than stock. the gas adjust is a little stiffer. I currently run Tokico HP's and they're amazing I love them!!
