I've got an '82 and it definitely does not have that.

We just went through the same problem and took it into the shop. New hot plugs, points, and a condenser. They did check for vacuum leaks and found none. The only other work that should be done was rebuild the carb. To much gas in the carb, but it is not fluding out. He just thought there was to mach gas in the carb and in the burn chamber.

My car did this when I first got it. It ended up being the shutter valve. Do a search on shutter valve and I think you will get some more info.

Guys, original post says the man's got an '80 SA: No shutter valve (FB specific) and no points ('79 specific).

lol, you guys should have noticed the OP posted this in April. Forsyth would you update us please.

Mine does the sporadic idling, but I also found out last weekend my motor has half the spec compression at 250 RPMs.

Hi everyone I really apologize for the disappearance. Had a billion things happen with my life and kinda dropped working on the 7 for that time...Now, however I'm back and am going for a complete restore of the car...I just spent about 5 grand in parts and have a ton of free time. Also I'm doing a really detailed blog of the process(started a couple days ago) which will hopefully provide some good info and also help me out along the way heres the link (http://drift-rx7.blogspot.com/) hope its useful, and please comment alot I could use all the help you guys can give me. I'll make a dedicated thread also though.

In terms of the original idling problem?...I never reallly figured it out but I put it down to a bad gasket and the carb needing a rebuilt/tune though i do remember it having issues when i would be coasting down the driveway in neutral so either it was when i braked for the bottom of the hill or maybe something to do with the fuel system?....i digress but check out and follow my blog if you get a chance
cheers
