There will be a 4th Gen RX-7 no doubt about that as much as the 8's that they've sold. and the people that will buy them will be us the people that are obsessed beyond all belief with rotaries. I do'nt know if it will be turbo'ed or super'ed buyt it will be 2 door and probably about 300 or more HP. Lets just say that it will probably easily compete with the New C6 Z06 (Corvette).
Thats just my 3 cents.

I got a chance to drive a friends RX8, they are nice cars, but my SE has WAY TOO MUCH sentimental value to me. It's been with me since college and left me stranded at school ONLY once. I wouldn't sell it for quite a few bucks, it's only money, which can me made. The memories and times I've had with the car cannot be reproduced ever. :tears up: haha Now that she's a carport queen, I still owe her some body work!

When I was in S.F. I saw a couple very nice FC's, including a white series IV TII parked near Golden Gate. And one or two FB's that were I admit pretty ghetto.

For them to do that, the car will once again end up in the $35,000 + territory, so I wouldn't hold my breath...I've been reading rumors that Mazda was going to go for the import crowd with the new RX-7 which means $25,000 TOPS...cheap-a$$ students...

Autoweek about a month and a half ago...I'll see if it's still at work or if it's being "borrowed" by one of my co-workers...

I could not bear to part with the classic 1st gen styling, twitchy steering and familiar hummm of the motor with RB duals (and now a modded Nikki). These are affordable classics (IMO). It would be like asking to give up a 69 Mustang GT Fastback for a newer model. Noo wayyy, Jose!

As far as the new Rx-7 being built at a lower entry point- It would be SMART for Mazda to do this. They really need to rebuild the customer base and create some new rotary enthusiasts, not cater to to the exotic car crowd. The Rx-8 is more akin to the older rotary sedans, not the Rx-7. Build a new Rx-7 and make it light, fast and affordable. That was what the concept was originally founded upon.

I won't touch a state side RX-8. Anything that lowers engine output because of wheel spin and the ABS not being warmed up yet is not ok in my book. I would consider bringing over a J-spec Renisis, drop that in with a FD five speed, port it and have Jim Wolf build me a computer for it though.

The FD 5 speed kinda sucks. The FC S5 T2 tranny is just as strong, but fits better in a 1st gen.

If I did get an RX-8, I'd get some sort of ECU mod to get rid of all the idiotic stuff they had to do to make the car pass our stupid-person laws.

I heard a strange rumor that caught me off guard......there will be no fourth gen rx-7, there will be an Rx-3 instead and it will be made to compete with the 350z and it may even be a 2 dr. I'm sure it would be affordable and probably use that electronic turbocharger you can read about at rotary news. As far as anyone sellling their first gen for an 8, if you decide to sell an 84-85 rx-7, give me a ring!

BTW I think the rx8 looks too much like a civic del sol! Additionally I feel making some of the mazda 3's features look so similar to the 8 really degrades the 8.

PLEASE PLEASE MAZDA, MAKE THE NEXT ROTARY CAR WHATEVER IT MAY BE LOOK NOTHING LIKE THE RX-8

A few weeks ago an RX-8 was parked next to my 85 GSL when I came out of the store, way out in friendly parking spot land. With them side by side I had to take a few minutes for comparison.

Up to that point I had only seen pictures. I liked what I saw in the pictures. But side by side changed my mind. My 1st gen looked sleeker. The hood on the RX-8 is too short, the roof line doesn't have the nice slope towards the back, etc. The 1st gen looks like a sports car is supposed to look, long hood, two seater.

I guess after 22 years (I have an 82 and an 85) I'm hopelessly hooked on the 1st gen. I'd have to keep my 1st gens.

that's what i say. ^ besides, i can't be separated from a Gen I Rx-7, it's like getting the clap from Lucy Liu ... a disease you just can't get enough of.

i must admit that i've warmed to the Rx-8 a great deal - i think i hated it mostly because i thought Mazda was going to try to substitute it for the Rx-7, but they seemed to have taken the higher road.

at any rate, i can't say i'd buy a new one if i had the money, but i can say that if i saw one for a great deal and i had no other projects going, i'd love to get my hands on one just for kicks.

OUTSTANDING! That has just made my day. I am in awe of those beautiful words. No I am not a crackhead.
My vote is the 1st gen. A little more character I think.

It flippin better be, cause if it comes out as an 06 model, that will be in 05. It will have been out for a year when I graduate from college (06) and the first thing I'm getting when I get out of college is the newest rx-7, whether it be a FD or... FE?... anyway, I'd be getting the newest rx-7 I can get but i really want a 4th gen

Talked to several (4) dealers on RX8's when they first came out, wanted a Ti Gray GT, Chapparal leather, 6-speed, 250hp (at the time!), and test drove a red GT with similar engine/tranny. Not impressed.

After 10 minutes into the test drive, I knew that I couldn't want the RX8 as a daily driver - not fast or sporty enough. This was with me, my friend, and the dealer rep in the car, but it still did not have the same pick-up as my 84SE, and that's with arguably 2x the horsepower.

Very strange day driving away after that test drive. My hopes were dashed and I no longer pursued getting one.

Learning that the mileage is anywhere from 12mpg to 20mpg doesn't help to re-sell me on the 2005 models, either...
