I believe those brands are Torsen type, so if they are then yes.

Get the Miata Torsen, those will fit 84 and 85 Rexes. The Torsen 2 cost less than the earlier Torsen 1.
the GSL-SE is actually missing a friction plate
Mazda musta left it out for the masses of mundane drivers who purchased the cars

Can you go into more detail? Please explain, as this is the 1st time I hear anything like this.

Thanks.

Couldn't you just over-stuff the lsd with clutches and friction plates (am i correct?), like many mustang guys do?

When my dad had 3.55 gears installed in his cobra, he had the lsd over-stuffed and a rear end girdle installed. The rear-end hooks better then it did in stock form.

I e-mailed Kaaz about a year and a half ago and asked what the had for a GSL-SE. The reply was "Nothing". I bought the Miata Torsen from Mazdacomp.

Someone, you can add a clutch and plate, but you have to shave all the others down a little to get another one in there. Atilla, how much was the miata from Mazdacomp?

TorSens aren't LSDs. They don't slip before locking; they just transfer torque to the wheel with the most traction

One of the local autocrossers here talked to Kaaz and they had to have 10 guys commit to purchasing before they would build them.....$1200 ea.!!!! NO LUCK.

Go with either the Miata or the GURU...either way you are looking around $800.

DONT use the Torsen set up for drag racing, you will blow the thing apart!!!! Keep the LSD for dragging and Torsen for autocrossing or road racing.

Thats why they are called torque biasing diffs

1st7heaven why would drag racing blow a torsen diff ? IF it were up to the power you were putting through it wouldn't it be OK ?? or am I missing somthing

I always thought LSD's were the weak ones ... being not as robust as open diffs or torsens ??

I am not a drag guy so I can only go by what Ari at RX7.COM tells me. Apparently the torsen cant take the shock of the unloading of the clutch, they say it just cobbles up the spyder gears. The LSD gives the cusion needed to absorb the shock.????? Like I said, I am not a drag guy this is what the guys doing it told me. By the looks of what I saw this weekend, no one uses the torsen at the drag strip.

I think most serious drag racers run a locked diff don't they ? that would provide the most traction I think ... I would have though thats why the guy in the other thread broke both axles ... would've broken one only if wasn't locked ??

like I said I'm probably missing somthing vital here

I should have said.....the street classes run the LSDs.

We talked to another guy at the race that runs a Mits. all wheel drive, 800hp 4 cyl.

He broke his right rear shaft, after it let loose the back lash snapped the front left shaft and gobbled the transfer case in the front!!!

Depending on the HP and extreams, it will still break when the power is release from the side that breaks then transfers to the other. In lower hp cars, maybe a couple hundred hp I dont think you would see this......I dont know?

I haven't been ignoring you. I was trying to find the receipt, so i could give you the precise figure. Since I haven't fount it, I'll have to rely on my admittedly fuzzy memory. I believe it was about $650.

I destroyed my stock torsen during a moderate lanch from a light on street tires. Actually started easy in 1st, then punched it. Slammed it into 2nd and boom. They are just too weak in my opinion. The gears can't absorb the impact and strip. I'm probably going to go with a T2 visous differential. Supposedly it is alot stronger.

So the viscous isn't a performance unit? What about the t2 viscous? I might want to get the clutch type t2 unit then.
