just wanted to gloat a lil bit
so i bought a motor from a guy off the forum a few weeks ago.. he said it came out of an 83 gsl (i started to get my hopes up) i get there and he tells me its was out of an 82 or 83 gsl and he cant remember (im crushed when i hear this caz i knew my chanecs where slim even if it was an 83. he takes me to the motor and i see a behive oil cooler. and i ask him is he sure it came out of a gsl. he tells me yes just cant remember the year. so i tell him it was out of an 83 gsl. 82 gsl have a FMOC. so im grining from ear to ear.. caz i know its like X-mas now i just dont know whats in side... so i opend it up today to get ready for the crazy ports i got on the way(thanks robert) an they where there...(the whole reason for this post) N ROTORS so i just had to let every1 know and that it made my day.. an apex seal killed my other set of N rotors and i didint want to have to buy a new set for this build.. and now i dont have to wooot score for me

S-GS-GSL all have the same engine.
For a rebuild/workup,the 83 is a better engine to have since its rotors are lighter.
If your looking for a replacement engine to drop in and go,Id take an 81-82 because the FMOC does a better job of keeping the engine internals and oil o-rings cool.

ah thanks... but you can just swap the behive for the FMOC... i was told that the N rotors only came in some 83 motors GSL... the motor in my car is doin just fine just building my crazy ported jam with maybe a lil turbo... lol i have like 5 motors at my house counting the 1 in the car..... im stocking up on 12a's lol

The 9.60lb rotors were used in all 12A cars from 83 to 85 regardless of trim level.
You can swap the FMOC to any engine you want, but when buying a used engine that you are going to run outright, with no rebuild, its better to get one that has had a FMOC for its whole life. After 100K miles of heat, the Orings in the beehive equipped engines get hard and leak.Putting a FMOC on after they have cooked, will do nothing to help them seal.
