Just rebuilt 79 motor, car won't start

I have a 79 that a buddy and myself just rebuilt the engine in. We had no compression.
We have completed the rebuild and put everything back in the engine but now the car won't start.
We have checked, spark, timing, and fuel. It is sparking, The timing seems to be on and it is getting fuel.
We've talked to quite a few people who are great with other cars and have tried things like holding the gas to the floor while trying to start it, somebody tried turning the distributor 180 and we're just stumped.
Any suggestions on what to try, maybe something we may have forgotten, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Prime it with some oil in the spark plug holes to help with initial compression.

first of all do you have compression just checking... not bein a smart ***..

second make sure the spark plugs are clean

try puttin a couple cap fulls of motor oil down the carb and turn the engine by hand it helps gain compression..

is it firing at all? wanting to start..??
you may want to set the timming back to square one

try usin some starter fluid can help in most case's

Try tow starting the car, or get the car on top of a long hill. The engine will need much more rpm to start the first time than the starter will provide. Once the car starts, keep it running at 1500 and above or so for 1/2 hour or longer.

I do have compression, and it is firing. It sometimes sounds like it wants to start.
