Unhappy just failed smog

took the car to get smogged today and it failed. the guys said it wasnt too bad, just twice the number of normal HC. correct me if im wrong, but isnt HC a byproduct of running rich? could it be a carb jetting problem? any advice on this matter would be helpful. the car runs really smoothly and i dont wanna mess with anything and ruin its driveabiltiy. if its possible, is there any shops around the area that has a large count of easy smog passes?

Check and/or replace or rebuild the air control valve that is bolted to the side of the intake manifold.

And the cataclysmic converter.

Give her a good tuneup top to bottom and search rx7club.com on "denatured alcolhol".
