Jdm 12at Info

Quick question for you, sir: How hard would it be to get a factory or reproduction first-gen GT-X rear emblem to the USA? There has been a couple of requests in the other forums asking about it, but I think they were focusing on Japanese sources. I plan on turbocharging my '79 eventually, and a GT-X emblem, along with JDM (AusDM, too?) "Savanna RX-7" side emblems, and possibly the "Rotary Turbo" badge that goes with the GT-X one would be a great finishing touch.
Heck, even a nice high-res dead-on digital picture of the emblems would be good - I could autotrace it in Illustrator and have a decal made.
What do you think - help a guy out?
Sorry, can't help with badges.
These cars weren't sold new outside Japan, i'm not sure why some of you
guys think they were sold in Australia.
There is I estimate only ten in Aus all used imports.
There are only two I know of in West Aust and that doesn't include the
purple one in the register thread (thats an Aust version, has reg plate between
lights, no bumper cut out and incorrect VIN. All JDM 12ATs VINs start with 300,000)
The only place badges might be found is in Japan and they are highly collectable
and therefore expensive. Have heard $1500aus for three ROTARY TURBO badges.

There were three spec options when these cars were new, the base GT, the
GT-X (mine) and the top spec Limited (leather, ETC).

The Savanna badge comes up from time to time on E-Bay, normally fairly pricey
the last one I saw was $150aust and that had minor damage, and also interesting is that only one of these was fitted to the passengers side on
all j-spec Rx-7's.

I will post some pic's that I've found to help you out.

This is mine showing the Savanna badge location

Sorry, just showing of with this one. Note boost guage.

This shows size of rear badge.

this shows location of "B" pillar badge. Sorry it's not clear.

this shows better detail of "B" pillar badge

I have other pictures of the badgework somewhere, I'll post them when
I can find them.

All very cool, and good info. Thank you very much.
I did know about the Savanna RX-7 badge being only on the left side - I noticed that on the SA model kits that I've acquired.

Here they are. It's with thanks to Rob who owns this car I got these.
He drove 400km so we could get photos of the two cars together.
Unfortunatly he wouldn't give the badges to me, but you cant win them all.
Disregard the white badge, it must be of a Cosmo or something.

Do realise that the 12AT was only produced from late 1983 to late 1985?
I think the U.S. spec dashboard assemb was different by then wasn't it?

Lovely! Thanks for the pictures!

Yep on both counts (1984-5 were the different dashes, among other things, in the US). Don't care. I'm not trying to recreate an "American" GT-X, I just thought the badges would be nifty. Mine's likely going to be a 13B-T anyway.
Besides, it just wouldn't be right if it wasn't RHD.

Probably as much chance as finding badge work
I could post a close up of the gauge if you like.
You may be able too remove the voltmeter out of
a standard dash and make a replica using an old
boost gauge and a bit of ingenuity.

They are pretty cool looking badges, wish my car was still wearing them.

Cool web site by the way.

I'll probably end up having vinyl decal versions made. Cheap enough, once I get the artwork done. Thankfully the design is reasonably simple.

Cool web site by the way.
Thank you. It is in dire need of being updated (for example, some of the links in the service manuals section point the wrong way), but I can't get into it at the moment, and haven't had time to work with my host to fix log-in issues.
