JCWhitney carpet...

I've had some people ask how it looked so here are some pics. Not sure if you can see it well or not. There are a few that have seen it so I hope they chime in to say if they like it or not. It won't hurt my feelings if not, just want to help other make the desicsion.

Just looks kinda black 'eh? BTW it's the mid grade they sell. Everything from firewall to the piece that hangs in the back.

You might be able to tell what the carpet actually looks like if you use a flash.

I used a flash smart guy. The thing is the carpet is still basicly brand new and clean, so therefor it actually is black, not faded ~black.

The fit is good. I recomend taking your dash out completly to do a good job though. I didn't so it's not GREAT, but good. On my '79 (If the rust isn't to much for me) I will put the new carpet in while I still have the dash out.

Wow, the first time the BS flag has been waved for something I said. I going to give you a virtual **** slap for that.

IF, you ever noticed the factory put the carpet in before they put the HVAC system and dash in. So therefore to have a quality factory look you MUST take the dash and HVAC out. Like I said I did not and it looks okay, but I wish I went the extra mile to make it look that much better.

Do you work on your own car?

LMAO. The first and last time I removed my dash was after the car was under water for over 2 days in 1994. I had the dash frame out and had it blasted and reprimed. Had hell getting a NEW firewall insulation panel, but found one. I have had my car to a rolling chassis and back. Engine and tranny and carb swap and on and on.

Got any pics of that virtual **** ? Like to know what to expect before getting slapped with one.

IIRC ~149.00

Grimes, with all of that you disagree with my opinion that to do it BEST is to remove the dash etc. ?

I'm in the market for a black carpet kit. I need a complete kit from the front to the piece that hangs in the back, so yours sounds like what I need. That's $100 cheaper than VB, which is awesome. Do you happen to have more details on what you ordered? I checked the JCW site and only could find 1 quality of carpet, while you mentioned that you bought the medium quality version.

Does this sound like the right one?

76ZX0756WF 800 Series Cut Pile Carpet: 1980 MAZDA RX-7 (801 Black) Each 159.95

Thanks.

You can put the oem carpet back in without taking out the dash or heater/evap. It takes a bit of finaling to get it back in. I removed all of the old padding and installed a new thicker padding, which made it even more difficult. Had to get the knee kicker out for carpet stretching to get that last little bit under the console, but it is doable.
