Question Japanese imports

Before I go and have a look at this 1979 rx7 are there any downsides to japanese import models in case it is one, like smaller water jackets, smaller radiators, tendency to rust what ever? (in comparison to Australian models)

It doesn't have a turbo.

I've read that the intake ports might be smaller though...

The first Turbo RX-7 came out in 1984...the U.S. got the GSL-SE.
Yes check for rust all around..under the carpets, get under the car..etc.
What you can do is pop off the SAVANNA RX-7 badges on the fenders and have those shipped off to me

I’ve got a 79 jap import (the jspec), its very much the same as the Australian model there are a few things different such as.

Yes the carby's jets are smaller and is the smallest carb of all the 12a's (but I’ve a series 2 carb on now )

Its got side intrusion bars welded into the door. For au import compliance,

The writing on the sun visor is in Jap, so I dunno what it says

They came out with lighter stock rims, compared to the Australian ones

It doesn’t have a rev warning buzzer except it has a buzzer when u hit 110 km/h (most jap cars of this era had this) and the Speedo goes to 180kmh

Windscreen wipers the little hole in the end is smaller

And I think that’s all.. Anyone else got anything else different?

thought of something else..

If the chassie number stats with a 1 its a jspec
If the chassie number stats with a 5 its an aus spec

not that this is gonna make any difference.

I thought the question was the comparison of the RX-7 imported into Australia new as against locally produced cars such as a Leyland. Does he mean importing one originally sold for the local market in Japan?

There was a lot of rx7 imported, not only factory Mazda imports but also a lot of private Japanese versions too... probable to keep up with demands?
