Never even heard of it ... what's it supposed to do? I generally, hear bad things about Jacobs' ignition parts, but I've never used them myself, so I can't confirm or refute ...

I've always heard to go with MSD. MSD is cheaper and they accomplish the same goal. I've heard big gains from adding a MSD box and converting to the non-wasted spark setup ala Paul Yaw. Some good hp gains, but mainly reliability, idle, and plug life.

Don't you mean 'wasted spark' as opposed to 'non-wasted spark'?

I've been out of the 1g loop for awhile but I'm pretty sure the stock setup is a wasted spark setup b/c the distributor wastes it as it fires to the wires. The paul yaw method converts it to a coil on plug setup, which does not waste spark, ergo my "non-wasted spark" comment.

I could very well be 100% wrong on the term, but the info is good.

The place the get waste spark from is when you set up the msd setup you have the two of your plugs always firing at the same time that means one will spark on a exhaust stroke and the other on a power stroke. there fore one of the sparks is wasted. the distributer does not waste the spark since the plugs only fire on the power stroke and never any where else so it does not waste a spark.

wasted spark is beneficial because it burns out the left over air/fuel in the exhaust stroke.

Or you could go to Jeff20B's website at this address:

http://www.geocities.com/cd23c/dlidfis.html

Read, grab an extra ignitor and coil, and install. I've got a couple of hundred miles on my setup, and I love it. My cost was 30 CDN, and now I have way better cold starts, better economy, and stronger spark throughout the rpm range.

If you are set on the MSD route, do a search on this forum, as V8killer has a write up on his setup that is very comprehensive.

I've heard both very good. and not so good things about it.

One or to guys I've talked to swear it's the best, but the majority of folks seem to think it's a waste of money...

I'm picking up some GM HEI ignitors tomorrow or Thursday to see how well they'll work on a rotary. Three to be exact because the rotary powered B2000 I'm fixing had an ignitor die on me as I was driving it (the other was already dead). I'm not even sure if it was Trailing or Leading that died due to... well, I won't get into how it was wired (for the rotary swap) here so as not to hijack this thread, but let's just say that upon close examination, it is worse than a stock FB. Yeah, I'm suprised it ran as long as it did in that condition. PM me if you're interested in the botched ignition saga.

As for Jacob's vs MSD, I'd go MSD. As for cheap and well worth it, I'd go with J-109 ignitors if you've got 'em. Otherwise, go with GM HEI ignitors because pretty much every autoparts store in The US and Canada (and anywhere else GM vehicles were sold) will carry them. Around $25US a pop. Now I've just got to back up what I just typed by actually getting it to work. I'm confident it will.

I have a Jacobs Rotary Master in my 82 12A Street Port with direct fire setup (waisted spark) with a motorcycle dual lead coil and never had any problems with it. Yes, they are more expensive than the counter part MSD but, does the MSD has a built in ignition disabler (anti-theft device)??? built in...

I also use the NGK platinum sparplugs for the second and third gen on my car and it works much better and last longer than the original type plugs.....

You can take the white wire left over from the MSD install, purple and green plug into the dizzy. Place a toggle switch in the cab. ground out one lead to the body and connect the other lead to the white wire. Close the circuit and it grounds out the white MSD wire and the box is disabled. Its low budget anti theft, but it works.

I got the GM HEI ignitors yesterday. I'll try to hook them up today.

By the way, when people mention "wasted spark" for a rotary, what they're really talking about is simultaneous firing. It also has the benefit of not causing confusion like "wasted spark" does.
