removing the charcoal canister

Hey there,

Every time i fill up my gas tank, when i unscrew the gas cap, a bunch of fumes shoot out, so i presume there is something wrong with my evaporative control system. I'm thinking possiably there is something plugged in my charcoal canister. so i figure it would be an ok idea to just run the two lines from the canister to my air box, and send the fumes into the engine. I guess this could be considered weight reduction as well.

Kinda have the same system as the early first gens.

Good or bad idea? and could it help my situation?

thats if you remove it all togeather, but what about just re routing the pipes to the intake, to get sucked and ignited by the engine?

That could work. Be mindful of the oil filler tube and its rust-loving action.

Be very careful about any modifications to the tank purging system. The tank needs to be kept in an air-starved condition so that it doesn't blow up when the wiper on the sending unit inside the tank arcs, which it does in normal use. On my SA, I simply ran a hose form the carbon canister in the aircleaner lid to the bottom nipple on the oil tube, then teed in the tank purge line to the larger hose. I also installed a little oil breather filter on the top nipple of the oil tube. Works great, no fumes, no condensation in the oil tube, simple as hell.

When you say top and bottom nipple, are you refering to the bottom nipple as the one on the intermediate housing? The top is the nipple on the oil fill tube itself, right?

Yes, that is correct. Sorry if I made that unclear.
