looking stealthy,

to get your mirrors off, look underneath them, there should be 2/3 screws. Once you have that off, if you look inside the other part, there's 2 more screws in there and the bottom section comes out. Fairly easy.

Strange thing about this epoxy...right after you spray it has alot of orange peel but after about 10 minutes its all gone. Must be self leveling???

Go to Sears. Craftsman has a tool (don't remember the name) that is designed to remove stripped screws and broken bolts. Buy that, stick in your drill and push hard. That paint should look nice. If you clear it it will just be a little glossier.

Expoxy is just that way. Its really thick so has that orange peel look. If you increase the pressure it should go away more. I say that becuase i know a guy who once shot it and completely ruin his fenders and front bumper on a honda becuase he forgot to turn on the compressor!! holy moly it came out like **** from the gun and it was orange peely like crazy but it was funny. Everyone made fun of him the whole year and he put his body shop in shame but we never told his co-workers though. Another thing u can try is to reduce it a little a more. It should come out more wet. Are you fallowing the angle of your hood yetterben? While you spray across? That can cause un-even striping.

Well i gave the new coat of epoxy a nice wet sand with 400 grit to get rid of nips and ****. Came out ultra smooth. Also ultra chalky lol. I might be forced to paint this car white again as there is just so many little imperfections. This car is gonna be a somewhat dd and get thrashed hard!

Purpose of primer is to give the base/clear lots of places to bite into....

Since you were surprised by the epoxy, some thoughts....

When you paint the basecoat color - make sure you crisscross as well as follow straight across so that you get one even color in the sun. If you haven't done basecoat before - don't get shocked if it looks like crap at first (no runs) as it is usually quite flat (and you don't want it too thick). The poly clear will bring it out (and usually has to be done within 24 hours or the base has to be reshot)

Good luck man!

Scott

Well here it is after about 5 hours of wet sanding with 400 grit. Only spot not done is passenger door. Hood is a result of solvent pop. Thats when you don't give it enough time between coats and the reducer has not evaporated. When you spray the next coat the solvent has not dried out and pops threw the coat you just put down. No worries as there is primer under it and its smooth as silk. The car looks good now! If i have any issues with striping on color i now know i can wet sand it out with 1000 grit and shoot clear over it

Don't yah love that mess on the driveway. ******* mulberry tree.....i cut it down today in my display of man like chainsaw prowess lol!

lifts weights huh? so do i.... i measure at 15 cold and about 18.5 to 19 hot depending on the day i'm a little high on my body fat% right now (12.5%) but getting down to 6-8 hopefully soon... i used to be at 8% but i let myself go...... to a whopping 15% what really hurts in working at a car wash and doing shoulders too.... tore my shoulder up so i quit and went back to my old job.

Most epoxies are no UV resistant, they will fade to a flat charcoal gray, similiar to what your's looks like after sanding. If you want to preserve the flat black look, you have 2 options. 1. Shoot a topcoat of single stage urethane with a flattening agent added, like my widebody. 2. Lay down a good base coat of the epoxy you're using, don't sand at all, then shoot it with a polyurethane clear that has had a flattening agent added.

I like the matte black urethane I shot mine with, it's one of the toughest and most durabl paints I've ever used and it's cheap. The only other paint that I've run into that's tougher is Imron, which is an epoxy. We used that to paint the inside of railroad grain hopper cars since it has such a high resistance to abrasion wear.
