its the end of an era...*sigh*

it seems i've always owned an rx-7. from way back in high school, to my days in the military, up to the present day. and now it's all changed. keeping up on her maintennance has been tough in these parts. i can't believe how much i miss having a garage to work in. but, i've come to terms that i need a new car, something that suits my now-changed needs. even my girlfriend pushed me in this direction. so after a crapload of researching, and a lot of soul searching, i drove my first new car off the lot.... a subaru wrx! every time i drive it, it gives me something new to just grin and say "WOW!" about. but no matter how much i'm enjoying it, there's a part of me feeling like i'm ditching a good friend. with all my car payments, and insurance("are you freakin' serious!?!?" ~me to geico), any extra i come across is already spent. this is the first time i've sold a 7 whose heart was still beating. she's been with me for years. probably more years than any 7 i've owned. my junior year, i had a 79.... you can't beat the memories of having an rx-7 in high school! then there was the 84 SE, short of an interior, but bought with nearly every street mod short of a turbo, that could blow the doors of anyone who wanted to 'come get some'. and now here's my little gsl.... who's mods were done personally by me. blood and sweat have gone into that car. i'm sure it's over a pint of the ole' 'a positive' altogether. lucky me, she's red anyway! but the deed's done, and here i am...just a bit misty eyed. but one thing is certain... i am, and always will be, a Rotorhead. hopefully, i haven't bored anyone. but hey, you never forget your first love, automotive or otherwise.

greg

ps. if anyone is looking to give her a good home, check in the 'for sales'. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=182232

aww.

yeh, i gotta sell my first seven this month. only had it for 4 months,, but its my first car, and ive had a great time wqith it. I just cant afford to own a car and go to school and move out all at once. and the latter two are not options at this point. I'm 22 this month and ive screwed around all i can afford to. i need to settle down and work on my education while i can still pick up college girls.

i prolly wont be able to afford another car for a few years, but i have a feeling it will be another 7.

congrats on you new wrx though!

I'd have to say that out of all the new cars you could have bought, you got one of the few I envy (just a little ). Sorry to hear you go, though.

I bought an '83 new and had it for years. Got married, had a kid and decided I needed to grow up and get a minivan. What a load of crap. Saw my Rx on a used car lot 9 months later and bought her back. Haven't been without her since.
Now the kid wants to drive her. Not so sure...

I know what you mean about having a garage to work in. I rebuilt my first engine (73 Ford F100 360) in the parking lot of my then apartment.
You are only asking $1500 for your seven?!?!?!?
You know, in the near future you will regret selling this car. Warranties only last so long, and eventually you will have both the high car payment AND the insurance. but no warranty. At that point having an extra car to drive in case of mechanical work on the WRX may be very valuable. Just think about how much rentals cost. I miss almost every vehicle I sold, and wish I could buy them in the condition I sold them for what I sold them for.
Oh, well- enjoy the WRX. You went from sexy and fun to drive to very fun to drive and... well the WRX is very fun to drive.

You'll be back!
I owned a couple FB's over the years. After wading up my last, I swore I wouldn't get another. It came time for a new car so I headed out to the Subaru dealer to get a WRX and came home with a Toyota Corolla. No one could understand this seemly random act of masochism. Fact is, when I looked at the payments and insurance my first thought was: Man, how will I be able to afford another RX? I took that as a definite sign that I was an addict.
I have no regrets, especially after dusting a WRX with my new RX last week.

i'm only asking $1500, because i know she needs a little work, namely the rear bearings, tighten the steering, and tune the carb. i never could get it totally figured out. but hey, it was fun trying. i'm surprised how well it did on the dyno being so out of tune. i have a sneaky feeling i'll be behind the wheel of another rx-7 eventually. namely when i get a house w/ a garage to keep her in and restore her. build a fair weather fun to drive car. but for now, especially after this crappy winter, at least i know i'll be able to drive damn near anywhere i feel. and in the meantime, i'm hoping somebody gives her the love and attention she's been craving for oh-so-long. and after she's gone, i hope i can still pop on the board from time to time and get my rotary fix, if you guys'll have me here. btw, i'm getting pics of her up this week if anyone's interested, under the for sale ad.

sheesh, you'd figure 14+ years of rotary ownership would get ya something these days. if the rx-8 was AWD, i'd be all over the thing in a heart beat. i love the looks, and a 250hp non turbo rotary just makes me drool. but it's rwd, and there's no way i'd drive it in the snow. and i don't really think the wrx is lame. i've only seen 5 up here since they came out, but audis are a dime a dozen. nevermind the fact that i only paid $22k... try that with an audi.

They always come back....

I still think you should find a storage place, and prep for storage and put her away for a bit untill you feel the rotary biting again and then pull it out to play again. But, as long as you've had that one, I'd never forgive myself for selling something like that, man.

keep it anyway man, that 1500 may help out for the payments but will only do so much, think of the years you have drivin the rex...sign the papers and one of your best friends is gone. WRX's are sweet but rex's are sweeter, much sexier.
