IRS in first gen found...
I recently (today) was given the RX7 book of the development of the FC and lo and behold they put the IRS on thier test mules which were FB's. MMMMMMM, if you have the book and didn't notice it's on 123.
Now to find one of those engineers and a feather to get him to hand over the plans for how they put that in there.
The book itself only has three pics of the setup.

what do you meen by IRS? Is this a type of motor, turbo, or system of some type? or do you meen they put the Internal Revenue Service in a FB, because if so I don't know how it would fit either.

I saw that in my book, I think I own every RX-7 book on the market except for the Austrailian guy's book which is hard to find.
Any hoooo, the IRS from the FC on a FB is possible, the pic's are not that great and leave some important details in the dark(no pun intended). I have a parts car that I would love to use as a test chassis, just need a donor FC.

Now imagine going over a bump or around a hard turn. The car banks. What happens to the wheels? If the bank is severe enough, you lean the tires out on the edge and lose traction.
Look under an FC, FD, RX-8, Miata, any BMW, Toyota Supra, Nissan 240SX, 300ZX, 350Z and other newer sportscars...
They have the differential in the middle and two CV axle shafts come off from it. These allow the wheels to move up and down individually for a smoother ride as well as better traction.
Independant Rear Suspension = IRS.
Cons include that IRS is more complex and therefor is more costly and harder to engineer. You have less unsprung weight, so it may induce wheel hop on hard launches, and the entire setup with subframing and all may be heavier.

2nd gens, and 1st for that matter, arnt intended as drag cars, they are handleing cars....check the IMSA sticker in your rear window. Hence wheel hop if you try to drag race it, just not what it was intended for. I am not bashing anyone or anything like that, just stating something that often gets forotten about.

I love it when people bring threads back from the dead for a four word addition to the thread.
I especially like it when I say something dumb in the thread and I don't remember if I was joking or if I didn't actually know what IRS stood for. Maybe my brain wasn't working.
