(interior) shift ****

I remember seeing a tread last year sometime of someone gutting a stock shift **** and using the metal treaded section on an aftermarket **** but i cant find it. I am doing this now so if anyone has some input on this fill free. I ll post pics as I go along.

Pics are to big but here is the link of the shift **** I used. First rubber layer is removed and down to the hard plastic. I ll work on cutting the plastic up tomorrow along with getting my carb on and tuned.

If you want to post the pictures, open them in MSPaint, then go to Image, then Stretch/skew. On the stretch part, i usually put 50/50 on it. Try that.

Just use liquid nails. Primitive, I know, but it will work and won't be seen. And if you ever need to get it off, you will be able to (with effort).

I haven't done this to a 7, but I did to a Ford. Traded it in 4 years later and bet it's still on there.

David when you did this did to use JB weld or locktite when installing the set screws? Most of the aftermarket ***** i have looked at uses them. Just courious. I havent even picked out a new shift **** yet.

Update got all the plastic off after days of cutting. I ended up having a friend cut it on a band saw at his work. We did damage the metal a little but shouldnt be a problem. Now to choose a aftermarket shift ****. I am leaning twards 1 off ebay. I ll post pics and any other mods after i get the ****. Please ask questions or if you have done this give em feed back.

dude get a vice, the old shift **** and a hacksaw. cut the top and sides down 2 the metal threaded peice....then get a flat head and pry. i did the same thing in 10 mins if that and stuck it in my shift **** from auto zone. you will probly have 2 cut some of the threaded peice off since its kinda long. its a lot better than useding the damn plastic inserts lol what a joke. anyway yeah quick easy and safe!

i can probly get some pics but i actually had to use my dremel and bore out the inside of the shift **** a tad and then the threaded peice fit really nice and snugg...then i used the set screws just 2 use them. never used lock tight on them since the threaded peice was so snugg.

I hate all shift ***** except for a stocker black like the one I have but if I was going to change it to another I think I'd have to go with a RX8 Shift ****.
