Intake manifold gasket

I am replacing my Intake manifold gasket and "o" rings tomorrow.

Should I put any kind of gasket sealing compound in the gasket????

Not really needed, just make sure to get all of the old gasket off. And, I do mean ALL, if you don't first of all, it will probably leak, and second you could break off a bolt in your engine tightening up the manifold back on, (ask me how i know).

haha i over tightened a bolt in the water housing, that was a mess that i have learned from

anyways i also 2 was wondering about the gasket can i make the gasket out of my own gasket supply since i bought a roll of the stuff and have no use for it now. secound, i took my carb of the other day to rebuild and today i came up with the idea of porting the intake manifold. i have everything to do it and was thinking of using the gasket from the carb kit as a template to see how much i can shave off.how much of a gain do you get from porting the mani out and what else of a upgrade can i do to the stock carb to get some gains?.my whole car is stick right now and i have a chance to port it out but i dont knwo if i will jsut be wasting my time since i dont have the money to buy a good carb

HEHE I just did this the other day when I pulled mine down I saw how much of an overlap there was. So yea, you can port it but on actual gains I dont know.

We are refering to port "matching" and not porting something like you are thinking.

Port matching is taking a part that is restricting from por design by its mate being designed a different size. So if 2 objects meet and do not create a = amount of surface openings you port one to match the other. General porting is enlarging evrything and machine every bit you can out to make a larger opening to improve flow beyond stock capabilitys.
