I recently installed a used Weber 45 on my stock 12A. I'm still in the tuning process but I certainly prefer it over stock. Years ago I had a 13B SP with a Mikuni set up (sidedraft too). It was ok but had tuning prob's with it ( i'm 99% positive it was lack of experience and no forum like this around to ask for help that caused that!)

Mikuni sidedraft all the way! I'm convinced these are the types of carbs rx7's were made to have. WAY more top-end power really brings out the rotary's potential.

Mikuni/delorto/weber but you are best with this type of manifold and a ITC dual barrel type of fuel injection set up. but the mikuni with larger valve with a med to large street port engine I liked best. with a stock engine the delorto.

i like the dellorto with the lake cities 4" long manifold. straight shot at the intake ports, none of this U-bend stuff!
Also have dellorto on the REPU's 13b 4 port. 2 piece RB manifold and 41mm chokes. Really likes to rev. Normal day to day driving shift at 4500rpms though!

I have the Rotary Engineering setup with dual Weber 36DCD downdrafts. Runs like a champ when set up right, but I am starting to think it takes too much effort to keep it tuned. Dual carbs = BIG HEADACHES
My recent problem with my 80 was narrowed down to the carbs, as I stuck my nikki back on and am running without the power loss up high. Now if I could just figure out what I messed up on the Nikki to make the AP not get actuated. It shoots the gas when moved by hand, but only then...

I really like the 48 IDA set up. Excellent setup. Only down side is, for people who live in places where they see extremely cold temperatures. Many adjustment are very easy. This carb works great on anything from stock to PP engine, everything can be set up differently in just minutes. RB has them brandnew for 499 and an intake manifold is 250. You can find these set ups used for less.
