If you already have the tools and the skills to build a cage, you might want to apprentice under a professional fabricator or ask one for some detailed instruction on the task. If you just want a cage for your car so you can go racing: save your pennies and buy one. It's easier and a much safer solution.

I am probably going to be in South Dakota for the next 5 months, so Im just looking for some instructions. I will be on a ranch, they do proffessional welding and have all the equipment to build one, I just need a plan for the 1st gens.

The weld all the time to fix their Semi Trucks, when cattle, and hay season comes around. All the heavy duty pipe benders too....

Guys,

I DO NOT WANT TO BUY ONE, If that was the case, I already know that autopower has them and would have gotten one.

If you don't have any useful knowledge for me, then don't post it... I'm not an idiot.

Anyone with useful information for me please let me know.

Thanks

Check around online for pictures of cages in cars to get an idea of where the bars go and how they tie into eachother and the body of the car, reinforcement, tube diameter and thickness. Or call up a few pro-builders and see if you can weasel some design ideas out of them.

It IS useful knowledge... Personally, I think that if you've never built a cage before, it's going to be safer and cheaper to either buy the autopower setup, or have a PROFESSIONAL do it... You can do all sorts of stuff on your car yourself, but when it comes to something as critical as this, I wouldn't skimp.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the great ideas. I have decided to sell my car. Many reasons have led up to this, but mostly becasue I will be moving to South Dakota this summer to work on a ranch, and I can't afford to not have a truck. Some other reasons also.
Thanks for all the support and thoughts. I won't probably have another Rx7 until later in life. Time to move on.

Ben
