installign dizzy on first gen

this is on a 12a

i have 2 motors. the one i need to run has no distributor whatsoever in it, and i don't see any yellow mark on the pulley to determine at which point to install it.

the other motor (the donor) doesn't have a yellow mark either.

how can i figure out how to install this damn thing properly

Nicky...

Looking at the front of the motor, the engine rotates clockwise. Take a real good look at your e-shaft pulley. the ridge closest to the engine will have 2 notches cut into it. The clockwise-most notch is the one you want to use to line up the dis.

faceing the engine spark plug side rotate the main pully till u see the first nick on the back lip of the pully walla line it up with the pin the first nick should be your 0tdc (leading) and the second is 20btdc (trailing) i think!! anyone feel free to correct
if the pullys are stock there is most defintely will be two nicks in it
so line first nick with pin on the distributer theres a dot on the gear and a 1/4" long mark on the ditrib frame line those up and slip her in duno if this helps or confused you more lol
goos luck

okay i was looking for a yellow mark, which is what the haynes manual says, which seems retarted to me, since a yellow mark isn't gunna last long.

if there are really notches in the pulley, like physical notches, then that makes more sense

so the first notch lined up with the marker, then install the dizzy after lining up the dot on the gear of the dizzy to the mark on the dizzy

Also, take some bright paint (white, yellow, whatever) and put a drop on the leading mark and a different color spot of paint on the trailing mark. This will make it MUCH easier to get your timing set correctly once you have your dizzy installed. You will need to check the timing. Installing the dizzy correctly you will still need to fine ture the timing with a light.
