Smile installed fpr, now a few "restoration" ?'s

well I bought a mr.gasket fuel pressure regulator and installed it, and the car runs beatifully. However I can't decide which pressure to use....seems pretty good at like 5 psi, but if I start at low rpms the engine will sometimes stall, therefore I have to use higher rpms and slip the clutch. Unless I drop the clutch, but this car compared to my turbo II is a joke, I need to go ahead and put a header on this, or a cat replacement pipe if it is cheap enough. It is still, pretty much just as fun as the turbo II, that's because it is the legendary 1st generation. Also it has a bupp.....bupp..bupp......bupp.....bupp..bupp, idle it may be those nipendenso spark plugs because I think they are fouled from the engine previously flooding although they are brand new plugs. anyways i have new ngk plugs and ngk wires that im about to put on when I get some time, i already replaced the distributer cap/rotor button, air filter, changed oil with new filter. also the temperature gauge didn't move after 35 minutes of running, and the fuel gauge is way below empty eventhough it ran for 35 minutes and would longer. and the oil pressure is barely over 30psi on the stock gauge...but i saw oil pressure increase as the engine started although not exceeding 35 psi. I think im going to autocross this car instead of the TII next time.

Adjust the FPR at idle until the engine begins to flood then back off a tad.

Question fuel pressure

You have not stated what type of carb you are using. What motor you have in it.

If you are running the stock nikki carb, 5 psi may be a bit high. I don't remember what the recommended psi, I'm sure one of the 'gurus' will chime in with the proper psi.

As for the TII being so much faster, I do believe my 12a-bp will out accelerate and corner your stock TII, if I can ever get the damn thing finished.

I run 2.5 lbs as per Paul Yaw's specs on his carb. I think around 3lbs on the factory carb will be fine.

well, the car is all stock I believe. the fpr is adjustable in .5 psi increments. if I put the fpr at 5 psi then it runs well and all but when accelerating hard/full throttle from a stop it gets about midway in 3rd gear and pretty much stalls. It might need a new fuel filter already even though the one on it is like less than 100 miles old. also, how much horsepower can be gained if I replace all three catalytic convertors with a straight 2 inch pipe? 12a bp is a bit much for the street, especially seeing as how you do all that and my turbo II is still stock....j/k, it doesn't matter, all rx-7's (and rx-8's) are awesome. but a 12a bp would probably outrun a modded T2 right? thnx, zach
