I'm thinking about buying a dead 84...
I was looking for a first gen for my friend and someone near me offered a car for 500 but it has a dead engine. Naturally, this generates a number of questions...
1. How user friendly are rebuilds, there are no rotary shops around here and I am almost completely rotary dumb. As well as car dumb.
2. How much money am I looking at as a whole, for a car that has everything working but the engine?
3. Where is the best online place to order a rebuild kit from.
4. Where can I get a video on rebuilding first gens?
Thanks in advance.
by the way, I did search 12a rebuilds and I did not find what I was looking for, just so you know.

1.3L is not that small
well in my opinion rebuilding an engine is not really that hard if you have just basic mechanic skills and a great manual to walk you through it, hell i would rebuild mine if it i didnt want to port and bridgey it but that is to much work and i do not have the proper machines or tools to do it. go to http://www.racingbeat.com/ and go to first gens, then click on engine rebuild kits they have a bunch for every model made i think. not sure what year yours is so i cant provide link, these are the only ones i have seen so someone else might point out a cheaper, better, or stronger brand. if im not mistaken they also sell videos with their kits but not totally sure. do it yourself you would probably be looking at about 1500 tops (kit costs about 850 but im sure there are plenty of other things ull need to buy) id go for it if you have the money and its def cheaper than having someone do it for you. good luck whatever you do

do you have any suggestions as far as books guiding through rebuilds?
Also does it take any specialized tools to do a rebuild?
thanks again.
