to my knowledge, mazda dosen't make a renesis crate motor so the firts wrecked rx8 i find in a junkyard around here, the engien and trans is mine!

ok fine, all ye who doubt me. i may be a pothead but i do have some pretty good mechanical skills (if i may say so myself) and im seriously gonna do this
i dont see whats keeping me from it. i know it wont be an easy swap cuz searching for that topic on this site turnd up nothing but as far as i know no one has done this with a first gen
ive spent a few hours calling all the salvage yards in my area but none have an rx8 that didnt die of natural causes. im gonna take my time and wait for a salvagable rx8 to come along instead of going the expensive *** crate motor route and try to save myself a big *** chunk of cash


and i know i probably shouldnt have made a thread about it until i had the project underway, but i was high and nothing is your own fault when your stoned, lol

There is a FB that had this conversion done over in Japan. It is the one with the large fender flares.

If I remember the writeup correctly, you have to use the gauge cluster from the 8 to make the engine work properly or something. LOTS of electronics have to be run to make this swap work properly.

So much work that its really not worth it. The whole swap will end up costing MUCH more than a turbo rotary swap, and for alot less power. So why bother? Sure its unique but is it worth like $15, 000 to you?

 

hmm, maybe youre right. i havent found a wrecked rx8 anywhere and the only renesis' ive found for sale so far have been up around $3000 without the manifold, ecu, and harness with it
whereas, there are more TII's around here for me to pic from than i have fingers to count on. lol. theres even a wrecked 3rd gen in a salvage yard about 20 miles away from me with the motor and trans intact.
my fb was my daily driver until it lost compression on the back rotor and i have several rebuildable 12a's and the cash to put up for a rebuild kit i wanted to make something a little unususal out of my car, something that would really test my mechanical abilities

the more i think about this the more i am unsure that this is the way i want to go.
the rx8 is still a relatively new car and i would probably go on a killing spree if i spent enormous amounts of money and time swapping in a renesis just to find out that its a lemon.

i will get high tonite, think more on it tomorrow, and try not to make basically useless posts on this fourm when im on drugs, lol
