I on my quest to rebuild my first engine every, I have been told its an early Gen 1 13B. When I took the rotors out to clean them I noticed that I only have one apex spring instead of two. Is this normal for an early 1980's motor?
Also, I remember seeing a post where someone used super glue to glue both pieces together. I am assuming it was to make installing the apex seals and corners easier. Is this recommend?

I have heard of that trick before, and also that when you're bolting the irons back together, you can audibly hear the 'Tick!' of the superglue breaking as the seals are brought into their final position. There may be another (better?) way to do it, but superglue has been used by some to keep the seals in position during reassembly.

Hello All need a some help... I ordered the gasket kit for RockAuto FS93851. I based my order as a 1980 RX-7. I found that some of the gaskets are bit too small, The exhaust, intake and oil pan gaskets. Can someone tell me where I went wrong?
I know RockAuto also has a FS93851-1 . Should I have ordered this kit instead?
I also need help figuring out where these gaskets go....
The silvers ones I think are part of the exhaust; I am not sure about the black O-rings . The Orange gaskets; I think these are Oil gaskets used on the rotors.
the exhaust gasket looks like one from a 79-80. the extra small holes has to do with the thermal reactor. So what I am seeing that you ordered the 12a kit. the other kit you mention is still for a 12a engine. If I was where you are at, I would use as much as the kit as possible. I would just use the exhaust gasket by cutting it into two and order the proper intake gasket. that should be an early 13b 4 port. Be aware that if you order a newer 4 port gasket from 87 or newer it will not fit.
FYI USE A LOT of Petroleum Jelly just spread it on like like jelly on bread, it will help keep your seals from falling out and help lube the inside during your first start up. You tube has TONS of videos on how the pros do it so check them out if you get lost have fun!

Hello Everyone, Can someone help me identify which year this oil pan belongs to? The Fram kit from RockAuto was for a 1980 RX7 and the gasket it came with is too small. I measured my pan and its 12 3/4 by 15 1/2 inches. Thanks for the help
I suspect if it was too short of a gasket it was a 12A gasket, which will be about an inch and a half (from memory) shorter than a 13B and its associated pan
no RX7 ever had a 13B in 1980, yours was switched with one from a pre 1978 13B, so you need to order accordingly instead of parts for a standard 1980 12A that the car should have had.
if there is a Y stamp on the front iron it should be the equivalent of a 1974-1976 REPU 13B.
rx4, rotary pickup, and cosmo of the mid- late 70s had 13b. look on top of the rotor housings. does is say 13b? also, those rotor housings look like late 80s. no coolant passage.
check this thread for lots of pix for comparison of the housings and plates to what's in ur engine. looks like its 12a plates and everything else is from gsl-se 13b.
yeah, it appears to be mid to late 70's 13B irons mixed with GSL-SE rotor housings. you could just look up the intake gasket from a REPU, i don't recall if the cars used the same Y cast port housings, i think they did but i cannot remember for sure.
the GSL-SE exhaust gasket from 84-85 will work for the exhaust, likely the 86-91 non turbo RX7 gaskets as well, though they have EGR ports that are unused.
