im going breinerd raceway on the 5th.Anything I should do to my car right before I go

Okay, on august fifth I am going up to Breanerd (spelling?) raceway. Its a 1.7 or so mile road course.

I am wondering what I should do right before I go up there.

My 82 has as follows.
-Racing beat streetport headers and center section with a strait through canister muffler collecting after the axle.
-Open element foam airfilter (edelbrock proflow)
-Carter Pump and holley regulator

I figure the day before I go up there I will ATF the engine, change the oil, new spark plugs, new tranny and gear oil (needed anyways), stainless steel brake lines and flush and bleed brakes. and probably clutch.

Is there anything I should do or know before I go up there.

i'm thinking you should probably give it two days, instead of doing all of that the day before. just so you can work out any potential problems before you discover it on the track ... my 2 cents!

other than that ... i think you've got it all covered. bring EXTRA oil and belts.

good luck and let us know how you do ...

Depending on the Track, there may be some safety conditions that you may be required to have.

Such as

This all depends on the track and type of racing. Just call the track and find out what safety requirements they have, so you don't waste the trip, or get hurt in the process.

    Good Luck!

I assume you're out there doing a drivers school and not full on sactioned road racing. Since if you're road racing you'd already be familiar with the rules and regulations.

In addition to what you and others have gone over, flush and change the coolant. Bring extra purified water and coolant with you to the track. Get a helmet, you'll definately need it. Either borrow a buddys, or call the organization renting the track and ask to borrow one from them if available. Or call track.

Do you have a spare tire?
Clean out the carb and put some Gumout carb fuel system cleaner and a tank of Chevron in the gas tank the week before. It really does clean out the system and makes throttle crispy.

Make sure all the nuts and bolts on the car are tight. Lots of vibration driving on a track can loosen something.

Bring a folding chair since you'll get tired of sitting in the car. Bring H2o and snacks for inbetween runs. Since it'll be hot in August, drink lots of water the day before you go out so you'll be hydrated. If you're not peeing clear, you're not drinking enough water.

    Bring toolkit.

    Have fun!

Oh and very important, overfill the engine by one quart of oil. That way less likely the oil pickup tube in the motor won't get uncovered when turning and oil is sloshing away from it. Since our e-shaft is in the center of the motor, it won't be trudging thru the extra oil like in a piston engine, robbing power and making engine run harder. We can add extra quart okay.

Check the oil throughout the day. It will eat more oil than you think!

octane booster will hurt your performance. sorry redrx, but you need a little research into what octane means.

one other thing that no one has mentioned (or i haven't seen). bring a tire pressure guage. one that will allow you to bleed off pressure with a thumb push button. their about $10 at autozone or advance. drive there with your pressure higher so that you can bleed down instead of worrying about filling them up. if you already thought of this then just read yada yada yada pressure blah blah blah.

This is not a race. It is a open track day put on by Donnybrook. I went to highschool with the son of the owner of Daytons.
It just a day to run your car on the track to see what it can do.

There are slow speed runs (less than 140) and high speed runs (140+)
