Unhappy Im Depressed, may have a bad side seal in my 84 SE.

I ran a compression test on my 84 SE project tonight to determine the condition of the engine after sitting for 6 years. The front rotor tested at 110 psi with the schrader valve in the tester and had 3 nice even pulses just under 30 psi with the valve depressed. So far so good from what I have read on the forums over the last year or so. The rear rotor tested at 105 psi and then I went to run the test with the valve depressed.........%@&^!!!....2 just under 30 psi and one barely moved. I jumped on the trusty forums, and looked for the "End all for no start threads" by Pele. According to what I read, it may be a bad side seal. Crap.

Is a side seal prone to sticking and is there a chance that a MMO treatment might help? Or am I looking at a decision to rebuild or part the car out?

The car has about 110,000 miles on it and appears to have been well cared for until a family bought it for their teenage daughter. She went and bent the frame rails in front of the core support at a 45 degree angle by running into something. I have another shell to transplant the interior and powertrain into but now im not sure what i will do. Any input will be appreciated.

Well, if it is busted, rebuild it yourself with a nice streetport! Believe me, you will be glad you did!

Depression wont get you enywhere other than digging yourself in a hole. Many many things could be much worse in life.

If you want to go by way of MMO or other fix-it solutions try it. Its possible the seal is stuck after all this time sitting and will "come back to life" after driving around a bit and going through thermal cycling. The compression should support the engine running am I right?

I found my engine improved after a month or so ( about 300 - 500 miles ) after sitting for years.. You may find you will develop oil seal problems...you can only wait and see.

Start looking for another engine to use temporarily like a free 12a if your lucky.

If or when it gets worse you can be back on the road with a plan already setup ready to go so your not booted out in the transportation department . Then you can rebuild your 13B with out pressure.

I woudn't get disheartened yet. With the engine sitting for so long, a stuck seal is quite/most likely. MMO won't do near as much as good soakling with Seafoam wiil. Try that, the take it out for reasonablby hard drive and see if it will loosen up.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am not feeling as bad about the engine

after reading the suggestions. I believe I will continue with work I

was doing to the car before the problem came up and put these

suggestions to work once it is running. Unfortunately the fuel system

is gummed up from siting for so long and I have not been able to get it started yet. My next step is to pull the

fuel tank. Here are some photos of the car so you all can see what I am

working with. As you can see, taking it out for a "spirited drive" is not an option at this time.

These were the photos posted by the previous owner last summer when I purchased the car.
