ignition question

is the first gen ignition electronic or mechanical can i use it in my 2nd gen or not?

No, the 2nd gen has a completely different setup... Might be possible with lots of modding, but why go backwards to older technology?

Most 1st gens use electronic igniton. The '81-'85 all use the same electronic ignition. The '80 is electronic, but a little different. The '79 model used points. And, yes, the 1st gen distributor will drop in where the 2nd gen CAS goes. You just then need to wire up the coils. The stock 1st gen coils are a bit different than the 2nd gens. There a couple ways to use your 2nd gen coils with the 1st gen distributor, if you want. I imagine you are going carb (or fuel only ECU) and this is the reason you want to use the 1st gen ignition. If you are going carb and doing away with the ecu on your 2nd gen, then yes, you can use an 81 plus 1st gen dizzy and coils. It will not work if you are keeping the ecu and fi.
