Any of the 'J109' (I'm 95% sure that's the code, but I'm at work right now) ignitors will work. It's stamped on the body of the ignitor, it should be stamped on yours now (go check to make sure I'm right!). I think the only year with ignitors that wasn't the J109's was 1980...or maybe '81... but I'm kinda foggy on that. Just make sure the codes match and you'll be fine.

I was getting on tonight to post the exact same question? Now I am sure that I can fix my rex when the junkyards open again.

Where are ignitors located?

How do I find these ignitors I think one of them is bad on my car, however, I do not know where they are located or what they look like. If anyone has a description or picture of one please post it .
My car is an 85 GS 5 spd
Thanks

can,t absolutely say where they are on other cars, but on my 84, they are attached to the distributor -one essentially facing the front of the car (the leading) and the trailing ignitor just beside the alternator (gotta move the alternator in order to get at it).

there are two of them attached to front and passenger side of the distributer with two small bolts. they looks like a small rectangle. If the leading ones are shot, your car won't event start. If the trailing ones are shot, your tach won't work.
