ok guys, you know i've been going thru UTTER MEGA HELL with this fuggin rx7. mainly with carb troubles. well, the carb is great now, and i was just suffereing from what i thought was a minor vaccum leak for a bit. i went driving a couple days ago and as i was going thru the gears it just quit. i was at the top of second and it just DIED. i thought i blew the motor but apex seals are there and compression is good. so my friend helps me realize it's probably an ignitor. i checked for spark and the trailing had a nice spark; the leading was kinda iffy. it was sparking but very weak. the car would crank for about 5 seconds and sound like it was running on one rotor! i had another ignitor i tried today and it gave out no spark at all. so i clean up the connectors on the old ignitor cause it was black, and put it back on. the car cranked right up and sounded completely NORMAL for about 5 seconds then it just stalled again. ugh. since there isnt enough spark it's getting the plugs wet and stalling. so basically, ANYONE GOT AN IGNITOR!!!! this COULD BE MY FINAL STEP! i serioiusly think i have practically replaced EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD ALMOST! the trailing ignitor is fairly new. i have never replaced the leading so this should be all that is left to get my car running!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH! PLEASE HELP!!!!!! AND I'M SO BROKE SO PLEASE ONLY PEOPLE THAT ARNET LOOKING TO MAKE ALOT OF $$ OF THIS LITTLE BASTARD!

 

p.s., everything else in my ignition is NEWWWW!!!!!! new cap, rotor, ngk wires, msd blaster 2 coils, new plugs, AHHHHHG!

 

Could you just swap ignitors for the time being??

Leading to trailing and trailing to leading?


I'm still learning about these things, so be gentle if I'm wrong. Not used to non-piston non-turbo cars

well, honestly i just tried that. the ignitor is sooo bad though that it wont even limp on just the leading. :-/ so i for real need an ignitor BAAAAAD.

 

OK OK OK, what cars use the j109 ignitors? i need to hit a yard tonight and get one. I have to get my car going asap or i will have nothing to drive. my dad is taking the loaner away from me. i know some old chrylsers and maybe some old mazdas? but what models????? please HELP! thanks so much guys,

i thought the j109's were also used on a couple other cars. DAMN, i'm screwed now.

 

just look around junk yards for fb's. VB sells them new but they are close to 200 dollars i think

 

First of all take a deep breath, now let it out, it's going to be OK! I know a lot of us have been at that breaking point with our cars. With all the work you've put into your car do you really want to trash it now? Over an ignitor? You will find one, just hang in there.
