Ignition Switch or starter?

I have a 1980 RX7 and I just put a new battery in it, best you can buy the first time it started on a dime but then a few hours later I was gonna put it in the garage and it wont start. Wont even turn over but the battery is still charged. It just clicks, it will turn on the dash lights but other than that, that's it. Im thinking it's the ignition switch but not sure, any ideas? Also if anyone knows where I can get an ignition switch for like around $60-70 new that would be great. I cant find any under $90. or maybe the starter since the dash lights still come on when i turn it.

Thanks

Take your starter out and have one of the auto parts store check it. It sounds more like the starter solenoid. You could also take the starter out and connect battery cables to it and the battery to see if it spins over. You can do this check with any car battery just to make sure the new one is not bad.

Starter or a loose/corroded cable most likely suspects.

definatly check the battery cables first. make sure they are clean and tight on the battery posts. ensure you have a proper ground on each of the two points on the negative cable. put a meter on the battery and see how many volts its holding.

It seems that 9 times out of 10, this issue always comes down to battery cable/corrosion/connection issues.

In fact, by upgrading your battery cables, it seems you magically eliminate 80% of all issues with the car.
