MA ignition switch problem

Hey guys,

I don't ask many questions here, mostly because I have figured most of this stuuf myself,or I search, but this one has me bugged. My 79 GS recently when I started it has been doing something that I need to get fixed ASAP. When I was trying to start it yesterday the key would not click back to run from start when I released it,and even if I turned it back to off,or acc the starter was still engaged. I am thinking it is a sticky ignition switch, but is it the electrical switch,or the mechanical part of the key mechanism? What is the best way to clean the electrical part up without damaging it? I have removed an ignition switch on my 83,so as long as it is the same I am all set with the removal, but I have never cleaned upan ignition switch.

I am sorry if this has been cover ad nauseum, but I couldn't find it,and I am sure I will get the forehead slap if it was cover thorughly, and I missed it.

Wink

Dont use WD40. My buddy used it and it screwed up his ignition cylinder. Go to radioshack and buy spray on cleaner for electronics but be sure to keep it upside down for the dirt to come out. If not, I know someone with several SA ignition assembly

Well, I didn't have a buddy to tell me, so I shot some WD-40 on my key and then let the key have simulated sex with the ignition for a while and it cured the problem.
