ignition problem - over advance?
I was working on my ignition and got the car back running.
I still have a problem. When I tried to take the four-point trigger off the distributor, I don't think I got it to line up again with the advance mecheism below. Now the car runs, but when I nail the gas I hear a crib and a noise that sounds like detonation. I think I have made an error with the internal distributor parts and it is WAY OVER ADVANING. I think that is where I am getting the chirp / ping.
I have not pulled a distributor apart yet and I am looking for some clues on the chirping and what I need to do.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks ~ JEB

After moving the pickups around the first thing you should do is check and adjust the timing. As long as the base timing is set correctly there's really no way for it to over advance.
