Hears my plan, with the new engine and tranny going in along with slightly smaller sized tires. my speedo is going to be off.
the stock guages suck anyway so its no problem chucking them.

in the guage cluster I would like to have a big tach in the center, with oil temp and pressure, water temp, voltage, and fuel level in its place. I want to mount a remote speedometer down by the shifter (not important, doesnt need to be seen easily)

my question is, can I move the warning light bar down to the center console. Im rebuilding that whole assembly out of alluminum anyways. would the wiring be difficult, it doesnt seam like it.

I think you can do anything if you can afford it and if you are creative enough. Hell, get rid of the warning light bar and just LEDs to indicate each thing. Basically, my answer would be yes, as long as you know what youre doing and are creative .

Toss it, and wire in a 2nd Gen Warning light cluster somewhere else. It's already seperate, all you have to do is look at a Haynes manual and within an hour you can have it done.

is the 2nd gen one better?

also, anyone know the ohm range of the fuel level sender. Autometer has a wide variety of fuel guages with varying ohms.

Yes, and more importantly, - It' SEPERATE from the Gauge cluster. They are mounted in the top middle part of the dash. Go look at a 2nd Gen and see for yourself.

Just about EVERY speedometer on the planet is machanical. not electrical. the only senders for digital
speedometers is electrical. 1st gen and 2ed gens share
the same cable driven speedometers. In my car, an 82
my speed-o went to 85 mph, when i bought and installed white face's my speed-o is now 145 mph. what i did was , i got the speed-o from an 83, just the speed-o. you know with the odomater and installed that. and my speedometer is right on,well close, because i've got 15's on. a 2ed gen idiot lights are in a small package comphared to the 1st gens. now here's my question,,,,why ??

have you been living under a rock for ten years or somthing nearly all modern cars have elctronic speedo's heck, even my kit car has an electric speedo !

I can't see why the "idiot lights" would be hard to make from scratch as long as you kept the stock wiring up to it ... they are just lights after all nothing complicated

Gas gauge sender is 7-95 ohms IIRC, so a GM 0-90 should work real close if you add a 5 ohm resistor in the line.
