Idle issues, replaced fuel filter, any ideas

Well for the past couple of days my 83 gsl has been refusing to idle. Keeps dieing like it is out of gas and I have to pump the pedal to keep it running. I suspected that I could have blown out my power valve on my holley 2bbl (yes I have a rb holley manifold with a 4bbl to 2bbl adapter, that is another story altogether). I checked the power valve and it was fine, but to be on the safe side I replaced it with a new 8.5" vacuum power valve. the problem still persited so I replaced the fuel filter with a new Wix filter (clear with a nice element). My old filter which had been replaced about 7 moths ago was pretty clogged and full of soot. So after replacing the filter I turn the key on and go back and look under the car to see any leaks and also to see the color of fuel coming into the filter. Fortunately fuel coming to and from the filter was clean. Now time to start up and see if it all works... Same problem! Should I run a can of carb cleaner though while having a buddy keep it running? Any ideas? I know that it shouldn't be my fuel pump even though it is the stock pump I can't imagine spontaneous failure. No prior pump noise, and surprisingly could feed my carb and manifold setup quite well. Just to give a further idea of what my car is currently running it has a 475 holley 2bbl with center hung floats, 8.5" vacuum power valve, #62 jets, vacuum advance still hooked up, manual choke, pre-mixed in gas tank and omp still hooked up (fed into manifold), 2 1/4" straight off the stock header to magnaflow, all emissions removed (of course!). If any one has ideas, comments, suggestions, please help me out. Thanks.

it's not too uncommon for the idle screw to loosen up. arn't you putting the 4 barrel on though?

yes I am, but I need to replace the secondary diaphram and get a weaker spring and larger accelerator pump cam like you said before I can make use of it.
