Idle to high 2-3K at start

Anybody have a clue about why my car started idling at 2-3k at start up after the car warmed up. Not a choke problem. I noticed that on the drivers wheel well is a gizmo (motor) with a cable hooked to it going to the carb. I think it is called a starter assist but the haynes and clymer manual are little help. I can start the car then push this cable back out and the car idles fine until the next start.

That is the hot start assist. I really don't have much clue about how it works, other than it helps with starting when the car is hot. Hence the name I've always removed all of th emissions equipment on my rotaries, and subsequently the hot start assist always finds its way to the trash can. If you want to find some information about it though, try searching hot start assist. You may find something that will help you figure out what's going on with it....

If the cable on the hot start assist is sticking, disconnect it and see how it starts and runs. If it does well, remove it.
