Idle is all over the place.

Hi this is my first post. I have an '85 GSL-SE. When the temperature outside is hot my cars idle will drop to about 100 rpms when I shift into neutral and sometimes just die. When the weather is 70 and below the idle can be normal or it can be revving itself between 1500 to 3000 rpms. When the car is moving though everything runs perfect. I've tried to have it fixed a couple times but of course it doesn't idle strangely for the mechanics who tell me nothing is wrong.

idle

First, get your shop manual out and set up the tune up specs, esp. the tps. If you can't get the idle speed right without the screw almost backed out, e mail me at the shop. I will tell you how I did it when I worked at the dealer. With this done, if the idle still hunts, try closing the secondary throttle shaft with a finger. It the problem goes away first try cleaning the shaft and using a light lube. If this is not enough I use the return spring from a 12A carb for the hot start assist linkage(the cable assy. goes to the left strut tower) which is small and add it to the arm on one end and the tps bracket on the other. Try this. In 99% of the cases these steps will fix you problem. Rob(rob@pineappleracing.com)

I have the SAME problem and I have been trying to find an answer to it...My cars runs fine, come to a light , put the car in neutral and the tac starts jumping all over the place..I have a 84 gsl-se. I will try what that other guy said to do...but I am no mechanic for sure...I myself may have to e-mail him. If I have any luck in solving my problem, I will let you know...Good Luck...cjf
