idle adjustment

I can't find the idle adjust screw on my '83 12A carburator. On the left side of the carb, I can see the idle mixture screw with the silver bullet tamper cap. (Can this be removed without removing the carb itself?)

In the Clymer manual, it says that that the idle/throttle adjust screw is directly above the bullet (mixture screw). But there's nothing there except vacuum hoses or the cold start hose. The Haynes manual says that the adjust is on the rear left. Again, nothing there. Anybody have a descent picture of where it is?

SEARCH!

It's behind a hose on the driver's side rear of the carb.

I couldnt find mine either, and the Haynes manual says theyre side by side as well. Its there, but its about 4-5 inches to the right of the mixture screw, and its REALLY hard to see. Its kinda by the throttle linkage as I recall. Hope this helps...

Is there a way to remove the tamper-proof bullet cap from the mixture screw other than removing the carb?

I just grabbed mine with some pliers and carefully pulled it off. Just don't force it too much 'cause you could bend the screw underneath. Oh, and when you get it off just throw it away.
