ideal exhaust.

im sure im about to get a gsl. i was wondering if a straight pipe back from a presilencer would be good or not? do 12a's need back pressure?

the reason i would want a straight pipe back is because i wont have any sort of system or anything, so i would rather hear a loud *** car. i also think it would be neat to shoot flames. will that ever happen.

im not a ricer though, im not concerned about looks. im more concerned about performance, but after i get it i will have no money.

I'm not the one to comment on technical aspects of engines, but I rather doubt you'll get the Fast and the Furious-esque
flame shooting thing going.

no no no, thats fake as hell. i hate the fast and furious. just like the burst flames from letting off the gas at high rpm's.

but anyone know if i would need backpressure?

Want to shoot flames? Buy a Ford Sierra Sapphire Cosworth, get a Haltech, set it to "Anti Lag Mode".

Those are cool flames.

N/A engines like back pressure. A straight pipe would be way too loud anyway.

i love the sound. when i start up my fc with everything but the stock exhaust manifold its almost just the way i like it, but it is pretty loud. it would be a straight pipe AFTER the presilencer, remember that.

N/A engines don't like backpressure any more than boosted ones do, but pressure wave tunning is much more important. Thats why RB header even though it has presilencers and a quiet muffler still offer a good performance gain. Sure if you were to strait-pipe the silencers and muffler you might be able to sqeeze out a few extra ponies, but the majority of the gain is attained without going to such extremes. The old wives tale of burned valves due to lack of backpressure doesn't even have bearing on our enignes because be don't have any valves.

I dont agree, I have run at the track with a RB muffler and with only headers. My engine runs a hell of alot better with headers only ! ! ! So much better that I will never run the RB muffler at the track again! Almost knocked .5 secs off my 1/8th mile time an that was while spinning my tires off the line and through 2nd gear.

Please see the other 'muffler' thread. You have multiple tuning issues.

Over the past 20 years I have run over 15 different rotary exhausts. For 99% of street driven NA's, the Racing Beat street port exhuast is the best solution. For the few who are bridgeported or peripheral ported then it will be restrictive.

BTW, I ran a 13.85@99.6mph the other night. 85 GSL-SE, street port 13B w/ RB street port exhaust. I'd say it makes decent power.

You run with headers only, the next time you run, then you tell me how good that RB muffler is compared to no back pressure!

What other "muffler" thread are you talking about?
