I'm looking to replace my current Pioneer single DIN head unit with a double DIN model, and the two main models I'm looking at are the Bose head unit out of mid-90's Nissans, and the CD head unit out of the 2nd gen Rex. Has anybody here ever replaced their 1st gen's stereo with either of these units. Or, does anybody know how the wiring of the FC stereo compare to that of the 1st gen (this is my main concern)? I realize that this might belong in the Audio forum, but it is 1st gen specific, and that forum gets a low volume of mainly FD traffic from what I've seen. Thanks

 

One other question that came to mind: Is it even necessary for me to worry about the head units having the same wiring pattern? I ask, because I have the ability to create my own custom wiring setup, just so long as the outputs and inputs are the same voltage and such on the head unit. Anybody had any experience in the area?

 

The FC stereo has totally different mounting points, above and to the sides instead of the sides and below, and are in different places three dimensionally.

you *may* be able to swap over the 1st gen mounting bracket, but the harness connector will also be different

 

i did this way back in the day, its actually not too hard. on the main power connector you have to swtch 2 wires around, and they the speakers just have regular outs, they got rid of the din cable. i forget what i did about the bracket, i think used the 1st gen bracket on the fc stereo, but i'm not sure
