I think my axles are bent.

Well I put the rear of my car on jack stands yesterday and ran it about 30mph. It vibrated real bad and the wheels wobbled even worse. I took the wheels off and looked at the center of the axle and it wobbled too. The passenger side one moves more than the drivers side.

Finally I think I have figured out my rearend vibration. I think the warping of the axles was caused by the guy that replaced the axle bearings. I was going to cut them off with a cut off wheel and aie chisel when he decided to use a torch and torch them off. I think the axles were heated uneven causing them to warp to one side.

bad bearings jack up axles. i don't think the bearings would warp the axle, unless it heated up extremely hot, and by that time, the bearings would have seized. i would take the axles out and check.

Bending stock rear axles isn't really all that hard to do, I've seen it a few times

Mine got bent by the ***** at my gas station who torched the bearings off. Its not so bad that I can't drive it (been like this since fall) but it makes the brakes vibrate like a ****, I just now found a set of axles for it, hopefully everything works out and they are good. This should be a lesson, if you have to change the axle bearings DON'T torch them off, use a cutoff wheel or sawzall and just be really careful. My $.02 anyway.

Presses are easy to find, but you need a bearing separator to hold behind the bearing. Harbor Freight has a cheap one for ~$20 that might work. Then again it might break on first use.

The Snap On is $146,

The guy was going to try and press them off, but the axle would not fit in the press (I think the dust shield got in the way). My brother said the guy used a plasma cutter when actually he used an oxy-acetelyne torch, but whatever.

82transam I know what you mean about the brakes wobbling. It is a real pain. Because of the axles my brakes make all kinds of weird noises. The vibration is really what bugs me though. I dream of the day when my seven is smooth, vibration free, and without an exhaust leak.

Yea I hear ya man, I hope to have my car wobble free in a few weeks, i hope....
and yes, the dust shield/brake backing plate was in the way, thats why the ******* had to use a torch to cut them off, as soon as I saw teh axles getting cherry red I knew I was fucked, they won't fess up to it either, good thing I'm quitting there soon. these are teh same guys who pressed a ball joint in my control arm which fell out (yes just fell the **** out) 2 days later, and wouldn't pay me for it cause it was "because the control arm was worn" my ******* *** it was. This is why I don't trust any mechanics and do everything myself. Anyway, good luck finding a good replacement set of axles dude.
