I think I'm done this time

I'm sorry guys but I'm ready to give up, its just too much for me. Thanks for all your help, but I can't keep dealing with this thing. If I was smarter, maybe, but since I'm not. Its hard to accept the fact that I have to let my baby go. Its flooded AGAIN, I unflooded it, it started and ran for about 45 seconds, then died, flooded AGAIN. Even when it runs well, I have to be really precise about how much gas I give it to start it when its cold, and when its warm, you have to hold the pedal to the floor to start it, EVERY time, then you get a puff of black smoke out the exhaust. I've had to unflood it at least 10 times in the last month. I wish I didnt love that car so much

well if you love it so much... sell all your assets (except the car) and get the fuel system recondtioned, a major tuneup and some cool seat covers and go fro a drive.

I dont know if your carby or injected, but it sounds like you need to give it a good clean and recondition.

dont give up... never let it beat you... love has it trials, but it also has its rewards

Cars don't cost anything when they're off the road you know. Don't do something you might regret later on. Frustration is a mistake itself. Keep the thing and get a beater, and whatever extra money you have every now and then just put it towards fixing the RX7. These things take time and we all understand that not everyone has the cash on hand or patience to deal with car problems.

Dont give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been having trouble with mine for 1.5 year now.Of the 1.5 year, its been standing 1.2 year!

Sometimes i want to set it on fire, and other times ; when i get something right the joy and satisfaction is great!

Maybe take it off the raod for a while, and look intensely at everything thats wrong, fix it,and then put it back on.

Sounds like a float is stuck in the carb. Maybe get a sterling carb rebuild?

You dont know how many times I wanted to give up on my car. But I hung in there and now that it runs good, I try to fix/upgrade one thing per day and have fun doing it.

that would be my first guess ...
my next guess might be that the carbie was modded before and may not have been done well. however, i don't know what your setup is. carbie? fuel system?

don't say that you're not smart enough. these things take patience and given some of the people that i've seen call themselves "professional" mechanics ... sheesh. you're here and you're reaching out for help ... that's a smart person.

hold off on selling the car or you just might regret it and kick yourself later when it passes you in whatever you replace it with or you see it on the Internet lifting the front wheels and you go

chin up,

I think I found the problem..... at least I can't imagine this being right..... if you look down into the top of the carb, while its idling, gas is steadily flowing into the secondaries

Yep, it's a carb problem. Have Sterling or Carl 'fix' it.

wonder what it would cost... would that just be a mal-adjusted float? or a bad needle/seat, or would it be something else?

Its a bad/sticky needle seat/ Very common problem. Either rebuild it, or have it rebuilt. This is an easy fix man, dont let this tear you away from the car.

Do you have a junkyard around there?? You may want to just replace it with an stock carb, it'll work, and thats all that counts right??

a stock carb will bolt onto the racing beat intake??????
I have one of those... it has all the vac lines and stuff disconnected so I'll have to figure out which ones to plug and which ones to hook up

no, but i'm sure it shouldn't take much for you to get a stock manifold from someone. i love rotary Holleys to death (i'm probably one of very few, but ... ) anyway, they require a LOT of time and patience to get right. i don't care if you're Jim Mederer himself (that was probably over the top, but ...)

I've got more than that done, this one the body is rusted, but its got 22K since the rebuilt, the stuff I mentioned before, and the complete RB suspension package. I've got a rust free 1st gen sitting here waiting for paint, the goal was to swa everything over.
as far as the carb size, how would I find out? I'm wondering if maybe its too big . I know that wouldnt have anything to do with the fuel pouring into the secondaries, but it has always seemed to be over carbed
