Exclamation i think i f'ed my engine up

so i have had this problem where if i accel. and then let off the gas it stays on for about a second longer...........well this also depends on your speed....

i was on the interstate hit the buzzer in 3rd went to go to 4th and WTF it wouldnt go in gear....(it felt like it was being blocked off and there was somthing blocking it) well during this time i had the clutch pedal in..and i relized that the gas had stayed on full and my tach was sitting on the peg and my engine was just screaming.!! i freaked and turned the car off ( i was still in N) so i start losing speed and try turning the key back on...wierd because after it being in the off position for several seconds all i did was turn the key to the on and the engine started i didnt have to kick start it......
well as it started back up.. i look in the rear veiw mirror to find the driver of the car to the rear left of me driving with their mouth just dropped.....( i gusse mad flames be shootin yo) but after that i had a James Bond smoke screen going on for a few seconds also....(car has never smoked EVER)

got to my house and then 3 hours later went to leave.. and my car then took several seconds to turn over....(it usally starts as soon as you turn the key(even when its cold)..and now i had to hold the key for about 5 seconds before it started)

did somthing really bad happen?? im thinking of sending my carb off to Sterling and getting it rebuilt and get him to mod it......could this be a bad spring (maybe air pressure is holdig the butterflys open since this all depends on your speed) or somthing i try to fix with alittle spray?????

sorry about the long post...... thanks..preston

If you blew your motor. It wouldnt start or run ever. Id say fouled pthe plugs a little. Hell for that matter the carb and motor are still probally pretty wet with gas.

All that gas that you shot in the motor, where do you think it went? Up in the air? Yes up in the air after the spark plugs tried to burn it. Thus the flames (raw gas in the exhaust=bad flames = bad!) and the smoke was really rich gas concentratrion.

anything i can do to test it and see if its bad?? or any other tricks?

i didnt think you ever wanted to rev a stock engine over redline or you might get chattering.....so when it was hard to start i was thinking i had lost alitte bit of compression

Well, I know from personal experience that a blown motor can be started but will run like absolute crap. I lost 2 apex seals on the rear rotor and had serious flaking on the front rotor and I managed to drive miles home, then start the car a few times to move it, but it definately didnt wanna start very easily or enjoy moving the car around. If you have removed your rats nest and have connections dangling they can possibly wedge themselves against the carb holding the throttle wide open, happened to me and scared the crap out of me, and as well seemed a little harder to start after, but the engine has been fine since. Probably just washed your compression away with gas as stated before, but Id make sure you work your little bug out so it doesnt happen again, cuz im sure revving it that high is detrimental to your engine, Good luck with it tho.

Start by making sure that your linkage is not binding. Remove the aircleaner/box assembly and have someone work the pedal while you watch the carb linkage. See any binding or sticking? Might want to clean and lube it just to make sure. Probably something simple, and I doubt that you did your engine any serious damage. Good luck.

If your engine was bad, you'd know it right away. Rotaries tend to shake A LOT when they take out an apex seal and they are VERY low on power. I know because I drove my car home after I blew an apex seal on the rear rotor of my 12A. The engine would start and run pretty good, but I had to rev to like 2000 rpm to get enough power to get going. Chances are the engine was still recovering from before as stated above.

As for your throttle staying open, check your floormats to make sure they aren't too close to the gas pedal. I once had my floor mat hold the gas pedal to the floor once and burried the tach. Actually, I burried the tach on my high mileage 12A a few times and no problems at all. Also, check to make sure the throttle shafts aren't gummed up and sticking.
